Treatment for Leg Pain

Angioplasty / Stenting / Bypass

These procedures are performed to improve blood supply to the affected part of the body. Patients with restricted blood supply to the legs commonly present with either pain on walking or slow to heal and painful lesions on the feet. Angioplasty and stenting are procedures that involve passing a wire down the artery and stretching it open with a balloon or a stent.

A bypass procedure is used to “bypass” the area of blockage joining the artery upstream and downstream either using your own vein or a fabric tube. These procedures require either a general or regional anaesthetic with the patient staying in hospital for a few days.
